The Sant’Illuminato farm is situation in the upper Tiber river valley, near the border between Umbria and Tuscany .
Within the 50-hectare farm there are ancient farm buildings which were originally owned by the Bourbon del Monte family. Among these, one (at about 300 metres above sea level and from which it’s possible to overlook the plain of the Tiber valley) has been chosen to house guests to the farm. This architecturally attractive construction dates back to the end of the 17th century, and it was enlarged later as was typical of the time to expand with the residential and farming needs of the families who came along afterwards.
The house has recently been remodelled, maintaining both the original interior and exterior architecture as much as possible, in addition to keeping the original building materials where feasible (exposed beam ceilings, flooring, fireplaces, bread oven, etc.).
The building has also been made more comfortable by the addition of the “amenities” which guests request for their rural holiday.
The five independent apartments which have been created from the remodelling project are all quite similar: sitting room with fireplace and appropriate furnishings, kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom with shower. Heating is centralised and each apartment has a thermostat.
In the area surrounding the building there is a swimming pool (6x12 metres) with an against-current swimming system and hydromassage.
Near the pool, in the former tool house, there is another one-room apartment with shower and bath.
On either side of the house there is a small lake (surface area 10,000 sq metres each).
In both lakes it’s possible to go fishing from the bank or to use a small row boat. Sloping fields and mixed woods (broadleaf and coniferous trees) act as a frame to the entire guest complex which covers an 18-hectare area and which is completely fenced. A large pinewood flanks one of the small lakes.
On the flatlands of the farm there is the b>Sant’Illuminato landing strip with a grass-covered strip (550 x 25 m) for ultralight aircraft (ultralight motorised aircraft, motorised hang gliders, etc.) or tourist aircraft of civil aviation.
At the landing strip it is possible to participate in sports activities related to flight such as tourist flights, flights in hot-air balloon and hang glider.
In addition, at the farm guided visits are organised to our various structures or to others in the Umbrian area (local product tastings, enological-gastronomic and artisan itineraries in the upper Tiber River valley).
Our guests can take advantage of a series of conventions with typical restaurants and inns in the area. For horse lovers, riding excursions are organized (riding centre ca. 3 km away). Other sports facilities (gyms, covered swimming pool, soccer fields, tennis courts, etc.) or town businesses and services (pharmacies, post office, banks, supermarkets, etc.) can easily be reached from the farm.
