VILLA FOR RENT TUSCANY Italy

The villa in its present form probably dates back to the 18th century, but the settlement is much more ancient. It is attested by documents that the little church annexed to the villa was donated in the year 730 by the Lombard king Liutprando to the Monastery of St. Eugene (presently named Monistero, in the vicinity of the village of Costafabbri). It is further attested that a village enjoying a limited autonomy in respect of the ancient Commune of Siena stood for many centuries on the area of the villa; moreover in the 15th century a house in said village was owned and inhabited by Lorenzo di Pietro Vecchietta, a famous painter, sculptor and architect of the Renaissance. The villa lies at the center of a farm of about 34 hectares (85 acres). Vines and olive trees grow on the sunny hillsides and represent the most important crops. The wine, produced on the estate, is covered by the quality mark “Chianti dei Colli Senesi DOCG” and draws a particularly pleasant taste from the sandy soil (“tufo”) on which the vines are grown. The oil has a very low acidity and a particularly delicate flavor, resulting from the kind of olive tree (Correggiolo), the method of olive picking (completely by hand), and the fact that the olives are cold pressed. Both wine and oil can be purchased directly at the farm. The villa consists of a main body, to which are annexed the very old church already described and two buildings, named Roseto and Granaino, which are presently used as vacation lodgings. The wine making premises are located close to the villa. A little farther there is a former farmhouse, named “Il Boschetto”, also being used as a vacation house. HOWEVER,IF REQUESTED, AZIENDA AGRICOLA DI CERTANO IS PREPARED TO ASSIST IN MAKING SUCH RESERVATIONS.
