Maria Assunta Casagni’s holiday farm is composed of four apartments in two different rustic buildings named
Agriturismo San Savino and
Poggiolo, located in the province of
Arezzo in the municipality of
Castiglion Fiorentino.
A land rich in history and memories embraces the San Savino and Poggiolo agritourism farms. From the Etruscans to the Renaissance, from the Middle Ages to the festive Grand-ducal period: here artistic and landscape patrimonies have fused with great harmony. Historical notes about the San Savino farm, now carefully restored employing the most advanced techniques, date back as far as 1066, the year when Marchese Ranieri gave it to the monks of Camaldoli as indicated in the contract written by Ser Bernardo Bernardo “intus Castello de Castilione in Comitatu Aretino” (Annali Camaldolesi).
Agristourism San Savino has two separate apartments,
furnished with antiques and style pieces, for a total of 7 bedrooms able to accommodate 16 guests.
There is a
swimming pool (14x6 m) and a wood-burning oven.
Sitting in a panoramic position and having an 8000 sq m
coniferous park, the farm is surrounded by 50 hectares of
chestnut and oak woods rich in wild mushrooms and
olive groves.
Easily reachable from the Valdichiana and Arezzo exits of the A1 motorway, San Savino is near the Val di Chio provincial road, just 7 km from Castiglion Fiorentino in the centre of Aretinian Tuscany.
The
Poggiolo agritourism also has two independent apartments and is located near the main house (a large building with chapel and spacious park) among olives and vines, as in the
old Tuscan farm tradition. The guesthouse, an 18th-century colony-style house, is divided into two apartments which have been refurbished respecting the original forms but with the addition of modern amenities: exposed-stone walls on the ground floor and white-washed plaster on the first floor, furnished with antiques and style pieces. There are a total of 5 bedrooms able to accommodate 11 guests.
Set in a secluded, panoramic spot overlooking the
Valdichiana as if from a terrace. From here you can see a vast portion of the valley, as far as
Monte Amiata (in the province of Siena) and closer, the 11th-century fortress
castello di Montecchio.
There is ample parking available. Guests may enjoy part of the park, walking along
roads and following itineraries within the large terraced olive grove (part of the estate) which lead uphill to an even higher vantage point, all in a natural environment full of the scents and sounds of the past. The Poggiolo farm has a wood-burning oven, a classic element in the Tuscan tradition, where it is possible to cook wholesome food and tasty pizzas.
There is also a
swimming pool (4x10 m) with a large paved area in front of the house.
Both agritourism farms are located in very strategic positions for visits to important artistic cities, being equidistant from
Florence (85 Km),
Perugia (65 Km),
Siena (70 Km), as well as near other sites of interest such as
Arezzo (20 Km),
Cortona (10 Km),
Lake Trasimeno (20 Km). The farms are 17 km from the A1 motorway and near the
spas of Chianciano, Rapolano and Bagni di Petriolo.
