In the Cerreto Guidi area, a sunny country town in the province of Florence, on top of a hill called Calliola (Island on a Hill), among vineyards and century old olive trees, rises the farm stay “Isola Verde” (“Green Island”). The particular position offers at the same time unspoiled nature and the comfort of closeness to the main roads of communication; in fact Florence can be reached in 30 minutes, Pisa in 40, Vinci in 10 and San Gimignano in 30. Cerreto Guidi has it’s name from the Guidi Lords whom mastered for centuries and built castles and walled cities typical of the XI century; and the forests of turkey oaks, very developed in these areas at the time. After 1565 Cosimo I° of the De Medici family, Lords of Florence, took over the town’s villa. Today it is a national museum. Enchanted by the beauty of the places and of it’s strategic position that dominates the hills, on 15 January 1571, Gerolamo Marsuppini, architect, wrote to him voluntaring to built a Medicea house in “Callaiola” as a retreat and hunting lodge. The works appear documentated till the 22 march 1574.
