If it weren’t for Giacomo Leopardi this town would be like any other one. Instead, a few wisely composed words can bring to life emotions and endless thoughts that have become part of the piazze, buildings, towers and memories of this small town.
We can see the town of Recanati as Leopardi saw it through his verses. At Leopardi’s mansion, inside among all of his papers, is his most important manuscript, the poem “Infinito”(the infinite) .
Close to the house, the piazza that was where all the citizens of the town gathered together on Saturdays, dressed up in their best clothes.
Beyond the piazza we find the stairs of Nerina, in memory of this young girl. Then, the tower of Passero Solitario (lonely bird), that captures one’s sight as it seems to touch the sky. At last, in the upper part of town, we find the hill that Leopardi wrote about in his poem “Infinito”, which is described by the author as an “unlimited space”, filled with “inhuman silence” and “profound quietness” all just behind the bushes at the top of this solitary hill.
This suggested itinerary is recommended by the Literary park of Giacomo Leopardi in Recanati.
