Rosolini is also called “town of the carob”. This beautiful tree from which the town gets its nickname, dominates the plant life of the municipality of Siracuse, with its thick green leaves and sweet fruits.
The town is located on the south-eastern mountain side of the Siracuse province, and is surrounded by calcareous type uplands that are filled with various caverns, which are very important for archaeological and paleontological studies. All this area is characterized by the presence of necropolises, catacombs, cenobies, hermit cells and many other signs of human presence in prehistoric and medieval times.
It is worth going a few more kilometres to visit the Grotta Lazzaro, discovered in 1878, and inhabited more than 10 centuries ago.
Also don’t forget the necropolis of Gisira, the tomb of the Prince and the hermitage of Croce Santa.
