For more than a hundred and thirty years the Carnival at Foiano has cheered up the Valdichiana, attracting visitors from far and wide. The traditional satirical, decorated carts, created by the members of four local groups - Azzurri, Nottambuli, Rustici and Bombolisti - parade through the town accompanied by poetry and song. The tradition here is both original and fun. Among the various personalities, the ‘Re Giocondo’ (Jolly King) is a fundamental figure of this carnival. While visiting the town of Foiano, the ancient remains of the old baths and the collegiate church of San Martino with works by Signorelli and Andrea Della Robbia are worth attention.
