The apartment is located in Policoro (Matera) near the sandy beaches of the Ionian Sea. The apartment has two bedrooms, a spacious sitting room/kitchen, bathroom and veranda; the heating system can be run by gas or wood-burning fireplace.
This modern, single-family rural house measures about 80 sq m and is located on the land of a six-hectare organic farm where various types of fruit are grown (citrus, apricots, figs, blackberries, and more). Depending on the season, you can pick the fruit directly from the trees yourself. The farm is fenced and you may bring your pets with you (so long as they get along with the dog and cat that live on the farm).
The house is typical of farmhouses built at the beginning of the 1950s for Land Reform.
The sea as only 5 minutes (1500 metres) away and you can easily go by bicycle. Other nearby places of interest include the archaeological park and museum of Magna Grecia (2 km) and the “Bosco Pantano” nature reserve (480 hectares) (2.5 km). This latter is located at the mouth of the Sinni river between Policoro and Rotondella and the last so-called “planiziale” wood in continental Italy. The flora and fauna in the reserve are of considerable naturalistic interest (particularly for bird- and insect-life) and for this reason it has been included on the list of Sights of Community Interest and Special Protected Zones by the European Union.
Also, the house is only 45 km from the Pollino national park and 60 km (45 minutes by car) from the “Chiese Rupestri” park which includes the “Sassi” of Matera, a UNESCO city and natural setting for many famous films, most recently “The Passion” by Mel Gibson.
Winter sports areas are also within easy reach of Policoro, as well as eno-gastronomic itineraries, offering tastings of local dishes and products. And all these various activities are in a natural and landscape context of exceptional beauty, uniqueness and state of conservation! The local inhabitants are known of their sense of hospitality and human relations, making a stay in the area at any time of the year truly special.
